Co-founder and Director Luke Sutherland-Stacey has an interest in entrepreneurship that stemmed back to his university days at Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland. He was a two-time winner of the Velocity Ideas Challenge, delivered through the Business School’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), which he participated in as a doctoral candidate, pursuing a PhD in Physics."

Weather Radar New Zealand has been awarded funding by Catalyst: Strategic – New Zealand – NASA Research Partnerships 2023 to leverage a rainfall archive dating back to 2010 that will be used for a detailed evaluation of GPM rainfall products in Aotearoa for the first time. We will engage with NASA’s GPM team and a local end-user group to discuss our findings and identify potential deficiencies in the satellite estimates to become the focus of subsequent investigations.
WRNZ's project has been selected alongside 12 others from across NZ to receive up to $75,000 for the six-month Earth observation studies in partnership with NASA.
